Need Help Solving Percent Problems

Link: Amby's Math Resources - Using the Proportion Method to Solve Percent Problems.  This is a very clear and easy to understand explanation of how to solve many percent problems.  It shows you how to set up the problem and then how to solve it.

If you use this resource, click on the Comment button and let me know if you thought it was helpful or not.  Thanks.

Determining Simple Probability

Link: Determining Simple Probability.  If you are wanting to practice for the upcoming test, please use this web site.  It will help you work problems to calculate the decimal number associated with something happening.

You may use a calculator because the numbers are big enough that it would be difficult to do this with pencil/paper.  Be sure to enter an answer of .33 as 0.33 or an answer of .78 as 0.78.

If you forget these directions, there are some on the page itself if you scroll down.  There are also 3 variations of the basic practice style that you can find near the bottom of the webpage.

Have fun and build your confidence before the test.

Extra Credit for the week of April 17, 2006

Select a drawing of a comic strip character from a newspaper or magazine.  Draw a grid over the figure, or tape a transparent grid on top of the figure.  Identify key points on the figure and then enlarge the figure by applying the rule (2x, 2y) to the points.  Color as appropriate.  Bring in the original comic strip and your enlargement.

Testing out Tesselations

For this week's online exploration, please visit this Java applet that lets you build tesselations.  I'd like you to find out the following information please.  Include a comment with your answers for extra credit.

Tiling with Polygons---try out all the shapes that are available on the website.
