I've realized how old I am....and how much I like the quietness of being an empty nester. My son came home from college and has been devoted to his newest musical passion witness the hours of practicing. Mind you, I have listened to him play the drums in the basement ever since he was 8 years old. The drum noise is not new.
What is new is the noise band concept. And I am too old to appreciate or even want him to express himself with this new form of music.
Therefore with the background in mind, imagine my delight when he decided to return to his jazz roots and play a small gig near our home last evening. It was such fun to hear this kind of music again. So I post this short video as a reminder to me how sweet the drums can really be.
Unfortunately, we are back to the noise band style today. The synethsizer or ring modulator (I have no idea which ) is blasting Alan Ginsberg's Howl through the software and he pounds away. He goes back to college on Tuesday and i will be very sad to see him go. And I will be very glad to have the quiet of my empty nest back again. I guess it's true that you can't have it all. ha ha ha
